You have probably been hearing or seeing commercials about what to get your mother for Mother’s Day. We’d like to suggest something you may not have thought of – a pearly white smile! Here are some suggestions:

Professional Teeth Whitening

Everyone wants to see their mom smile. As we get older, our teeth start to darken naturally, regardless of diet and other habits, which only affect how fast this process may happen.

Getting professional teeth whitening can be a great way to boost self-confidence and give your mom an extra reason to show off her smile.

Our dental office whitening treatments here at Christensen Dental are much more effective than over-the-counter products. Your mom will get better and longer-lasting results.

Electric Toothbrush

The Oral Health Foundation conducted a study comparing people who used an electric toothbrush compared to those who use a manual toothbrush. Those using the electric toothbrush had healthier gums, less tooth decay, and keep their teeth longer than those who use a manual toothbrush.

There are many excellent brands and products available at almost every price point. To help get you started, here are some suggestions from Buyer’s Guide.org.

Water Flosser

A water flosser is an excellent addition to regular flossing. Most of us don’t floss enough, and getting a water flosser can help get you into the habit of flossing regularly. Also, some people have difficulty with traditional flossing. The problem could be because they wear braces, or it’s just too painful for them, so this is a great gift you can get for your mom. A delicious and healthy meal

You can treat your mom to a delicious and healthy Mother’s Day brunch that includes teeth-whitening foods such as strawberries and salmon which is rich with omega-3 fatty acid to help fight gum disease. Offer your mom a cup of green or black tea. Both green and black tea help inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria in the mouth. Include lots of fruits and vegetables to provide Vitamin C, A B2, and B 12.

You can also treat your Mom with a variety of special snacks with her teeth in mind. You can include sugar-free gum and an assortment of single-serving munchies she can take with her when she is on the go. For example, almonds are a good source of calcium and they are low in sugar.

Single-serve containers of calcium-fortified cereals and orange juice are also good choices for oral health and tooth strength. You can get a full day’s worth of calcium from just one glass of fortified juice which can provide a full day’s worth of calcium. And with single-serve containers mom can take them with her on the road.

Chocolate – Especially Dark Chocolate

No matter what you get your mom for mother’s day, you can’t go wrong by adding with it some chocolate, especially dark chocolate. Dark chocolate contains polyphenols which can protect your teeth and gums against plaque and tooth decay. This works as a protection, it limits the bad bacteria from turning into acids and attacking the tooth enamel.

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms!
